PhD: Prospecting aquifers for CO2 storage

Prospecting aquifer systems in NZ for potential to store dissolved-phase CO2

Funded PhD position at the University of Waikato

Summary

We have an opening for a motivated student to undertake a PhD as part of a large research programme aimed at assessing the feasibility of novel carbon dioxide removal in New Zealand. Our goal is to derisk technological pathways for atmospheric CO2 drawdown and durable storage. The advertised PhD will focus on prospecting of potential aquifer systems for dissolved-phase carbon dioxide removal using a risk-minimisation approach.

The successful candidate will be co-supervised by Dr. Andrew La Croix (University of Waikato) and Prof. Andy Nicol (University of Canterbury).

The position includes a PhD stipend of $35,000/yr and full cover of tuition.
