Fully-funded PhD project: Geophysics

Enhancing Underground Imaging with Ground-Penetrating Radar

Massey University, Palmerston North

Level: PhD

Summary

Massey University’s MAF Digital Lab is looking to recruit a PhD student for a funded project in the area of signal processing and machine learning. The successful applicant will be based at Massey University, Palmerston North and fully supported with funding, including payment of fees and a tax-free stipend of NZ$30,000 per annum.  Applicants must have either a Masters, First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Division I) or equivalent qualification in a Physics, Computer Science, Geophysics, and/or Engineering related field and must be currently living in New Zealand.

The project will involve investigating the collection, enhancement and use of Ground-Penetrating-Radar data along with other complimentary sensing technologies to detect subsurface features with application in the archaeological, construction and agricultural industries. This will require the design and execution of experiments at our test-site, including the design and construction of a sensing platform and subsequent data analysis.

Closing date for applications is Sunday, 16 January 2022.

Please send your application in the form of (1) a covering letter (2) your CV and (3) your academic transcripts to Dr Gabe Redding (g.p.redding@massey.ac.nz), who you can also contact to find out more about the research opportunity.
