Seismology

The Seismology Special Interest Group (SSIG) is open to all the GSNZ members interested in all aspects of seismology, and also including those whose research involves earthquake geology, earthquake engineering, and topics ranging from response to risk.

The main objective of the SSIG is to promote Seismology in Aotearoa New Zealand. The following lists some primary functions:

  • Provide forums for discussions on research, to share news, updates, events, and opportunities.

  • Foster greater research collaborations among the members.

  • Generate awareness of the seismologists’ role in creating a seismic resilient New Zealand, within the geoscience community and across the wider general public.

The Seismology SIG is a new group formed in August 2024.  The first get together was held at Geoscience 2024, where the future direction of the group was discussed and a convenor elected.

The group is co-convened by Kiran Thingbaijam and Chris Rollins.  You can contact them both using the email below.  Offers of help to run the group would be most appreciated.
