Members of the Geoethics Special Interest Group within GSNZ have a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, but all share interest in research and reflection on values underpinning behaviours and practices wherever human activities interact with the Earth system. This is especially pertinent in geological resource use, post-disaster response, geoheritage issues, and engaging with communities including Indigenous peoples.
The Geoethics Special Interest Group exists to build a community of practice within research and teaching, to explore and promote Geoethical principles. We are the Aotearoa New Zealand chapter of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics (IAPG).
All GSNZ members with an interest ethics pertaining the Earth system are welcome.
Geoethics SIG members will be emailed about upcoming events. If you wish to receive an email notification, please make sure you are subscribed to the Geoethics SIG. Help updating your SIGs is available here (log in required).
The current Geoethics SIG convenor is Matthew Hughes. You can meet Matthew here.
