Call for volunteer to help establish Aotearoa New Zealand chapter of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics

This is a call for a volunteer (or volunteers) from the wider geoscience community to join me in establishing an Aotearoa New Zealand chapter of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics (IAPG). Having two or more of us as national contacts for this chapter would be a good division of labour, and enable correspondence with the Geoethics community to occur efficiently. I will attend the 37th International Geological Congress in South Korea this year in August, and it would be nice to announce the establishment of an Aotearoa New Zealand chapter at the Geoethics session there.

I am an earth scientist working in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury, with a strong interest in how economic geology and infrastructure development affect landscapes and communities. If the ethical and social dimensions of earth sciences interest you, and you want to dedicate time and energy to this, please contact me at: matthew.hughes@canterbury.ac.nz
