Paleogeographic reconstruction of Zealandia: mid-Cretaceous to present
by Dominic Strogen (GNS Science, Lower Hutt)

Dominic Strogen presents a series of new paleogeographic maps illustrating the geological evolution of Zealandia since the mid-Cretaceous. The 15 maps were chosen to highlight maJor tectonic phases, from initial Gondwana rifting through to the development of the modern plate boundary. They show paleobathymetric and paleofacies interpretations along with well/sample data, outcrop geology and structure and a synthesis of the regional tectonics.

For the first time, these maps cover the entirety of Zealandia, and in a tectonically reconstructed framework. Future refinements to tectonic models and paleogeographic maps are expected with improved modelling of both extensional and contractional deformation, feedback, and integration of further regional datasets, as available.

If you are not able to attend in person, this talk will also be broadcast live via zoom
