GEOTalk: Providing access to data for students and teachers - EarthScope educational tools and resources
GEOTalks (GeoEducation & Outreach Talks) is webinar series hosted by the Geoeducation, Outreach and International Development (GeOID) Special Interest Group (SIG), to promote and celebrate people's public engagement mahi and share their passion, skills and ideas with likeminded GSNZ members and collaborators.
GEOTalk: Providing access to data for students and teachers - EarthScope educational tools and resources
The EarthScope Consortium supports global geophysical research and education. While the largest components of EarthScope provide instrumentation and data services for researchers, there is also a significant commitment to the development of resources for education, outreach, and workforce development. A key educational focus has been creating tools which allow students and teachers to engage with real scientific data. John Taber will describe some primarily seismology-related tools and activities which might be adaptable for New Zealand audiences, ranging from Year 6 students through to undergraduates, and the general public.
EarthScope was formed from the merger of IRIS and UNAVCO in 2023, and has recently received funding from the US National Science Foundation to operate the new National Geophysical Facility.
