Measurement of Anthropogenic Gravitational Effects with Mark Paetkau, Thompson Rivers University, Canada
Gravity is the oldest known force, yet perhaps the least well-understood. In the 17th century an inverse square law led to predictive models of the motions of (most of) the heavens. This mechanical universe was upended by Einstein who postulated gravity not as a force but the bending of space itself. Gravity surveys have long been completed as a geophysical tool and provide important information on the fundamental physics properties of the earth. In this talk I will re-introduce the audience to gravity, review geological applications of gravitational and gravitation-gradient measurements and apply a simple model for anthropogenic gravitational effects.
