GSNZ Wellington branch event
GeoTrips: Explore New Zealand’s unique landforms and geology (and a bit about how user experience approaches can optimise digital science outreach)
with Suze Bull, GNS Science.
GeoTrips is an award-winning online catalogue of self-guided field trips designed to lead the public on journeys of discovery around our beautiful landscapes and geology.
Over 400 trips have been contributed by geoscientists from all around New Zealand. Suze will present an overview of GeoTrips and results of a recent user-based study undertaken to understand how we can optimise the site to better communicate the value of Earth Science.
Site metrics and a user survey were used to identify goals and characteristics of key user groups, allowing us to identify design solutions to best satisfy user needs. We will also see brand new content recently developed by VUW summer students Jasmine Casidy and Holly Kennedy and show how easy it for geoscientists to create their very own GeoTrips.
